Nature vs Nurture

What I learned this week is brought to you by JoLynn at Musings of a Housewife.

Two little girls with blonde hair, one with blue eyes the other with brown - both live here, in our house with us as parents...both started preschool at the same age - both have had the same advantages and disadvantages in life...

Blue eyes loves clothes, cares about what others might think of she wears, runs wild at times and has an independant spirit that renders her parents frightened of the teen years.

Brown eyes will wear anything on any day and never give it another thought, is diligent and somewhat reserved, prefers to follow the rules to a fault and has an independant spirit that renders her parents proud...

So when asked to start Christmas lists it should be no surprise that blue eyes list looks like this:

Haircut (barbie haircut toy?)
Baby (talking baby doll)
Helicopter (the $30 one on TV)
Car Track
She also has a list of 10 American Girl items, wants a camera, a phone, more dress up clothes, bendaroos, Handy Manny's workshop, the choo choo express and just about everything her little blue eyes see...

And yet brown eyes list looks like this...

It sits empty, a blank page, waiting, wondering will it ever get filled?

So you tell me? Is it Nature? or Nurture? I don't know, all I know is my two girls couldn't be any different from each other! Lauren is not a materialistic kind of gal - she is VERY hard to buy for...

So I ask you my internet friends? Can you help me fill her Christmas list this year?

My girls want one of Everything!!! I love that she is putting a lot of thought into her list. Your girls are so sweet. (My sister is 3 years older than me & we are 100% completely different still)

Good luck
FWIW, I have identical twins, and yet in some ways they are as different as night and day.

It depends is the one that has the big list the older of the two? If she's the older, I would say probably not necessarily nurture but she got more things than the second one because she was the first. That's my theory. If not, I don't know LOL.

My 2 daughters can be chalk and cheese, but although they would never admit it, they are very close and are scarily similar in some ways too!

That is so sweet! Bet you'll be glad that you snapped that picture when they're older - I love how my mom saved things like that. Have a great day! :)

That's how I feel this year about my oldest. He's given me zero ideas while the other 2 have circled everything in the catalogs. What about more experience gifts like taking her to the museum or a special outing?

This might be off base, but what about one of those explorer trips/camps the Denver Zoo and/or the Nature Museum does?? Tyson is too young still, but I hope they get to do something like that someday.

My girls are very different as well. Nature or Nurture? Who knows? How about books and magazine subscriptions for brown eyes. Maybe a camera to record her artisitc thoughts and a scrapbook to display her photos. A journal to express herself. (Maybe one cool item of clothing from a hot teen store - here it would be Holliser. Even if she seems uninterested, she still might like something hip). Good luck. That's a tough one.

So funny! I have a blond one who is just like your blondie and a brunette who is the same as yours too. It's so funny how two sisters can be so different! Made me laugh!
